![]() Ooma was supposed to be free but really has been about $6/month. I wouldn't need the 1200 minutes of calling.Īre there any taxes or frees that apply to their service, whether upfront or monthly ? Have you ever tried to connect an actual fax machine or analog modem to their service ? I currently send faxes directly from my native Windows apps. I don't want to use a fax-out service through a website, as that is much more work. I've had them since 2009.Ĭheck 'em out! (And no, I don't work for them.I'm just a very satisfied customer.) Hardware provided free - no shipping charge, no rental fees. All the features, including SMS controls. They also have 1200 minutes (20 hours) of international calling for an additional $7.95/month. They have free fax-out service through their website (you scan the document and then provide the recipient's fax number). Samsoes wrote:VOIPo ( ) is an amazing service: 2 years of unlimited domestic calling for $150. Ideally, a device that isn't tied to one carrier, but if the device is inexpensive enough, one tied to the carrier would be fine too. That's a few orders of magnitude more than what's needed for voice & fax.Ĭan anyone recommend a VoIP service and/or device that would meet my needs ? I have an internet connection with a decent speed - just upgraded to Comcast Blast 150 down/10 and it shows 180/12 on speedtest. Other cell carriers aren't any better at my location. I use my smartphone at home pretty much only as an Internet device - never as a phone. Wifi calling doesn't work well either, even with an AC router, due to the thick building materials used in the construction of the home. There are still areas where calls drop off completely, are not received at all, or the quality degrades. The cell phone service in my large home is very spotty, even with an in-home cell phone booster provided by the carrier. I have been using a Panasonic KX-TG6581 DECT 6.0 cordless phone with 6 handsets, and that works great in every part of my phone, unlike cell. International calls on cell phones tend to be too expensive to make international calls at reduced rate. It does not at all anymore, at this point. I use a Brother MFC-L8850CDW all-in-one for faxing. I know they are stuck in the 1990s, but I cannot choose the insurance company - those are carriers from my employer I'm faxing. Only fax and snail mail are available - a secure web site is not. to send claims to medical providers by fax. I still need home phone service for several reasons : I have opened cases with their support, but I am not very hopeful that the issue will be resolved. The call quality has significantly degraded. I have been using Ooma for the last 5 years.
